Our methodology ensures the substrate is prepared using the right equipment, the right technique, and the right depth of profile—based on manufacturer specifications and the performance demands of the project.

How We Determine the Right Method
We assess the concrete condition, coating requirements, and desired CSP to select the safest and most effective preparation method.
We begin by assessing:
Concrete condition and hardness
Existing coatings or adhesives
Moisture concerns
Flatness and levelness
Safety or ADA compliance issues
Manufacturer requirements for the new system
This evaluation guides us toward the correct removal method and required surface profile.
A. Diamond Grinding
Used for:
Smooth profiles (CSP 1–2), adhesive removal, leveling, LVT prep, moisture systems, and thin coatings.
Why we use it:
Creates a precise, flat, installation-ready surface
Removes minor coatings and imperfections
Produces excellent adhesion for many modern flooring systems
B. Shot Blasting
Used for:
Medium to aggressive profiles (CSP 3–5), industrial coatings, urethane mortars, and resurfacing systems.
Why we use it:
Delivers a clean, highly textured surface
Ideal for thick coatings and heavy-duty industrial systems
Removes contaminants and opens the concrete pores for maximum bond strength
C. Scarifying
Used for:
Aggressive removal and deep profiles (CSP 5–7+), failing overlays, thick epoxy, and uneven slabs.
Why we use it:
Cuts deep into the surface to remove heavy buildup
Corrects severe concrete irregularities
Prepares substrates for high-build systems or new overlays
After preparation, we verify the CSP visually and through comparison to ICRI profile chips to ensure it meets the exact specification required by the flooring or coating manufacturer.
A properly prepared surface must also be clean and free from dust or contaminants.
We use OSHA-compliant HEPA systems to remove dust, ensuring a clean substrate ready for adhesives, coatings, or overlays.
Understanding Concrete Surface Profiles (CSP)
The International Concrete Repair Institute (ICRI) defines CSP levels from 1 to 10, ranging from very smooth (CSP 1) to very rough and deeply textured (CSP 10).
Each coating or flooring system requires a specific CSP to ensure proper mechanical adhesion.
